Some might say they’re ready for 2019 to be over. Others might say this year had a lot to offer. As Save the Children Action Network’s (SCAN) social media manager, I’ve seen many moments trending online that at times made me want to pull the hair out of my head. But, I’ve also seen plenty of trending moments that made me smile. From breaking news in Washington D.C. to outlandish news from Hollywood, some of my favorite moments came from our very own SCAN volunteers. Here are some trends I know I’ll remember from 2019!

We hosted a Twitter chat with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Center for Education & Workforce to make the business case for early childhood education. The Twitter chat received more than 20 million impressions!

In March, our advocates put their game faces on as they made their way to Capitol Hill to meet with their lawmakers during our annual Advocacy Summit. We documented their experience and meetings on social media and we have one thing to say: We can see the dedication on those faces!

Our volunteers across Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina met with nearly all of the presidential candidates on the campaign trail to ask them how they plan to invest in kids, if elected into office. Many of our volunteers took photos and videos as they met these candidates, which we shared on social media. Candidates like Cory Booker and Andrew Yang even liked or shared some of the posts! During disasters and emergencies, you can count on Save the Children to be on the ground to respond and help vulnerable children and families. This year, as tensions rose high at the U.S.-Mexico border, Save the Children was in Deming, New Mexico where they opened programs to help migrant children and families once they were released from U.S. government detention centers. Save the Children Trustee Jennifer Garner visited this programs and we shared this powerful video to highlight the work we did. We shared this video on all of our channels, but on Instagram, it became our top most viewed video! #nbd (no big deal)
Despite the highs and lows in 2019, I can’t wait to see what the new year has to offer. I hope you’ll follow along!
