This week our advocates from around the country came together for a Week of Action to protect funding for early learning programs, including Head Start. They collected petition signatures, screened films, published letters to the editor in their local newspapers and met with Congressional staff in their communities. On Tuesday, students at Furman University hosted a film screening and panel discussion. Clockwise from left: Nick Torres, Joe Waters, Andrew Wynkoop, Kjersti Kleine, Laurin Bixby, Camilla Bellow. Mr. Waters connected the idea of rural poverty, home visiting programs and local education policy in South Carolina. More than 50 guests attended, including South Carolina’s Representative Chandra Dillard, who spoke about how to engage with elected officials and some strategies college students can use to make sure their voices are being heard.
