Weekly Wisdom: Breaking the Cycle of Poverty with Head Start

Breaking the cycle of poverty in America isn’t an easy task, but with the right investments, we can take a step forward in closing the opportunity gap. One of the programs that has helped our nation achieve greater equality is Head Start. A new report from the Center for American Progress shows how Head Start has been a critical resource in expanding early education opportunities to vulnerable kids who live in hard-to-reach communities across America. According to the report, Head Start accounts for one in three child care centers in rural America and has delivered educational, health and parent education services to more than 110,000 families in the 2015-2016 program year. As we jump into our Head Start Week of Action next week, we encourage you to join us in raising your voice to support Head Start and Early Head Start.
